Atletico Madrid have reached an agreement over a fee with Chelsea for the signature of Spain international striker Diego Costa in the January transfer window.

After months of brinkmanship and negotiations, it seems Costa is finally closing in on a return to Atletico Madrid and is set to travel to Spain soon to conclude the protracted transfer saga.

The 28-year-old actively burned his bridges with Chelsea once he received a text message from Antonio Conte in the summer, informing him that he would not be part of his plans going forward.

Costa did not return to Chelsea from his holidays in Brazil, but Atletico Madrid failed to reach an agreement with the Blues to get the deal over the line during the summer.

But it seems a deal has been reached and according to Madrid-based daily Marca, the two clubs have shaken hands on an agreement worth €65m that will see Costa rejoin his former side Atletico Madrid.
