Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has no doubt about Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's ability to shine for the Reds, but believes that the England international needs time to adapt to his new surroundings.

Oxlade-Chamberlain moved from Arsenal in the summer after refusing a new contract with the Gunners, putting pen to paper to a five-year contract with Liverpool.

The Southampton academy product's first start for the club did not go according to plan as Klopp's side succumbed to a 2-0 loss to Leicester City in the EFL Cup on Tuesday.

The German manager though refuses to identify any fault on the part of the new recruit as he believes that any player needs time to adapt at a new club.

Klopp also believes that Oxlade-Chamberlain's problem with his calf also prevented him from reaching his level best and the midfielder will only excel once he regains match fitness.

“Ox had a few really good situations and a few unlucky situations”, Klopp said at a press conference.

“I thought he did really well in the moments when you could see that he tries to adapt to the style of play and all that stuff.

“He had a little problem with the calf, not an injury but a little problem.

"We all need to get used to this and manage it a little bit better.

“But it was his first game from the start, nothing else.

"After a game like this, that you lost and he didn’t make the best game in his life, people probably ask ‘Where is the impact he can make?’

"But I’m not in doubt about this.”

The 24-year-old spent six seasons at Arsenal, where he managed an overall 198 appearances, scoring 20 goals before moving to Anfield.
