Scunthorpe United boss Graham Alexander has revealed that he will have discussions with former Leeds United midfielder Toumani Diagouraga as the Iron assess a deal.

The 30-year-old is at the League One club and has been training with the Iron for the past few weeks following his release from Elland Road.

The midfielder also featured in a behind closed doors match against Preston on Tuesday, giving the manager a glimpse of what he has to offer.

But Alexander is not yet in a position to announce whether Diagouraga will join the club and revealed he will hold discussions with the former Leeds man soon.

Alexander also took time to speak about his hope to come out with something concrete next week once the discussions are over.

“Toumani is still with us and he played in the behind closed doors game the other day”, Alexander told the Scunthorpe Telegraph.

“I didn’t get to see him after the game so I will chat with him today [Thursday] about how we go forward from here.

“I will speak to him about how it has gone so far.

"I will get his thoughts and I will give him my thoughts and take it from there.

“Hopefully I should have some news maybe next week.”

Having joined Leeds in 2016 Diagouraga managed 20 appearances for the Whites before he was loaned out to Ipswich Town in January.
