Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed a potential defensive crisis for the Reds ahead of their weekend clash against Leicester City.

The Reds defence has already been under pressure for conceding soft goals, which has led to Liverpool losing points despite possessing a potent attack up front.

And ahead of Saturday’s trip to Leicester there could be more scrutiny on the defence as two of their regular central defenders could be missing from action at the King Power Stadium.

Klopp revealed that Lovren is yet to return to training from a back injury and admits Joel Matip picked up a knock in Liverpool’s draw at home against Burnley last weekend.

He admits that he could be forced into fielding a centre-back pairing of Ragnar Klavan and Joe Gomez on Saturday, but the Liverpool manager is keen to wait before making a final decision.

Asked about Lovren, Klopp said in a press conference: “He’s not in training and is a doubt for the weekend.

“Joel Matip and Emre Can also have bits from the last game and so we have to see.

“Hopefully they will be back in training today or tomorrow but we’ll have to wait.

“Ragnar played the third game in a row. Joe played the centre-half position. We have to see what we can do. But until it is clarified we have to wait.

“We will see – there are still two days to go. That’s how it is, players get can ill overnight and you have to make another plan.”

Liverpool have already conceded nine goals in the Premier League this season including a 5-0 drubbing at Manchester City.
