Former Leeds United boss Neil Redfearn has indicated that the Whites supporters should not be criticised for jeering Chris Wood and Charlie Taylor earlier this week.

The former Leeds duo received a hard time from the Leeds supporters at Turf Moor on Tuesday night when Burnley took on the Yorkshire giants in an EFL Cup third round game.

The evening got worse for Wood and Taylor after Leeds defeated the Premier League team on penalties to move to the next round and Burnley boss Sean Dyche insisted later that he could not understand the Leeds fans booing the duo as they were good servants to the club.

Redfearn agrees with the Burnley boss’ assessment of Wood and Taylor’s performances for Leeds during their time at the club, but he feels it is up to the supporters to decide whether want to give an ex-player a hard time on the pitch or not.

The former Leeds boss explained on Radio Yorkshire’s Yorkshire Football Show: “It’s the supporters’ prerogative to boo or clap ex players.

“It’s irrelevant to me what they [the players] thought and I think what is important to me, and Sean Dyche is right, is that they were good servants to Leeds.

“But again it’s the supporters’ prerogative and it’s up to them what they want to do.”

Taylor made his second start for Burnley against Leeds on Tuesday night and Wood has settled down well in their starting line-up since his move to Turf Moor last month.
