Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that he has been impressed with summer signing Fernando Llorente’s attitude.

The striker, who joined Spurs from Swansea City on a two-year deal on deadline day, is still being eased into life at the north London club.

Llorente has thus far managed to clock up just 86 minutes over three appearances in all competitions for his new employers.

However, Pochettino, who hailed Llorente’s work ethic, explained that the Spaniard has never approached him asking for more time on the pitch.

“He works like a champion”, Pochettino said in his pre-match press conference on Thursday, when asked if Llorente has spoken to him and asked for more game time.

“He is a top professional and never this type of player asks you about minutes.

“How they behave is they work hard, try to convince the manager and show they deserve to play.

“This type of player will never knock on your door and say, ‘I want to play more’.”

Pochettino went on to add that he is not a fan of players who nag managers for more game time as he feels his charges should do their talking on the pitch.

“The reality is our job is to analyse every player and try to be fair with everyone”, he continued.

“Of course no manager likes a player knocking on their door asking for more minutes.

“The players need to knock the door on the pitch and show they deserve to play.”

Llorente, who was also wanted by Chelsea in the summer, joined Swansea from Sevilla in 2016.

The 32-year-old was in good form for the Swans last season, scoring 15 goals in 35 appearances in all competitions.
