Celtic legend Murdo MacLeod believes the Rangers defenders will have a tough time on Saturday, irrespective of which striker they come up against, with Leigh Griffiths and Moussa Dembele pushing to start.

Dembele, who has struggled with a hamstring injury this season, plundered in 32 goals in 49 appearances in all competitions for Celtic last season.

The Frenchman returned to action against Ross County last weekend and showed his class by finding the back of the net in the Hoops’ 4-0 triumph over the Staggies.

On the other hand, Griffiths has stepped up in the absence of Dembele and has scored five times and set up six goals in 12 games in the present campaign.

And MacLeod, who thinks the Rangers backline will be fearful of facing either of the two strikers, however is of the opinion that Griffiths will have more attempts on goal than Dembele.

“Honestly it’s difficult to say as both of them are great goalscorers”, he said on Celtic TV, when asked between Griffiths and Dembele, who would the Rangers defenders be more scared to face.

“I think if you’re a defender, you won’t be bothered to find out who has been left out as you know that the other one will be just as good.

“For me, Griffiths will have more attempts on goal.

“Even last night the amount of efforts he had from outside the box.

“Half a chance and he will go for goal.”

Celtic have thus far scored 16 goals in the Scottish Premiership this season, the highest in the division.
