Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has revealed that new signing Benjamin Mendy has helped bring in a lot of energy into the team.

The 23-year-old joined the Sky Blues in the summer, putting pen to paper to a five-year deal after completing a switch from Monaco.

While a thigh muscle strain prevented the former Monaco man from appearing in the first two Premier League matches, Guardiola has used him in the following three games as well as in the Champions League where he has excelled.

According to the manager, the limited number of training sessions Mendy has taken part in has shown what he can offer to the team and energy is the most important among them.

"Mendy arrived injured. He didn’t take part in a lot of training sessions but he has brought a lot of energy", the Spaniard told his club's official website.

Guardiola also took time to cite the example of Gabriel Jesus to stress his belief in Mendy's capability to improve in the near future.

“Like Gabriel Jesus, we believe he can improve, but we are so happy with him.”

The Citizens, who are currently placed at the top of the Premier League table, are scheduled to face rock bottom side Crystal Palace on Saturday.
