Diego Costa has arrived in Spain to complete his transfer from Chelsea back to Atletico Madrid.

Chelsea and Atletico Madrid confirmed on Thursday that they have reached an agreement over a fee for Costa’s move to the Wanda Metropolitano and the transfer is hurtling towards a conclusion.

The 28-year-old striker left Brazil in the early hours of this morning and Atletico Madrid have confirmed that the Spain international has touched down in the Spanish capital.

The club posted a photo on Twitter and wrote: “Atleticos, a friend says hi!”

Costa will undergo a medical at Atletico Madrid soon before signing a three-and-half-year contract to end the summer long transfer saga, which has dragged on since the end of last season.

The deal is believed to be worth €65m and the striker will be registered as an Atletico Madrid player only on 1st January once the winter window opens.

The Spain international made it clear in the summer that he had no plans to continue at the Chelsea as he felt Antonio Conte disrespected him.

Through his barbs towards the Chelsea manager he actively burned bridges with the Premier League champions following the end of last season.
