Leeds United head coach Thomas Christiansen insists that Pontus Jansson was fit to be selected against Ipswich Town at Elland Road this afternoon.

The Whites ran out 3-2 winners against Mick McCarthy's men in front of just over 34,000 fans at Elland Road, with goals from Pierre-Michel Lasogga, Kalvin Phillips and an own goal from Town goalkeeper Bartosz Bialkowski.

Eyebrows were raised before the match at Jansson not being in the playing eleven or on the bench after Christiansen had declared him fit in his pre-match press conference.

And the Dane insists that the centre-back could have played, but he opted to leave him out.

Asked about Jansson in his post-match press conference, Christiansen said: "He is fit, but I decided to leave him out."

The Leeds boss admits his men did not have it all their own way at Elland Road and is even more delighted with the win ahead of a big midweek trip to Cardiff City.

“We suffered at the end, but the most important were the three points.

"The home game was important to go to Cardiff in the best condition."

Leeds picking up all three points means they stay top of the Championship table ahead of a meeting with Neil Warnock's men in Wales on Tuesday night.
