Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas has talked up the connection he enjoyed with now former Blues striker Diego Costa.

Costa and Fabregas combined well to deliver the league title in the 2014/15 season and while the wheels came off in the following season, the Spaniard is still fond of the understanding he shared with the striker.

The Spain striker left Chelsea earlier this week for Atletico Madrid and while Fabregas is working on his relationship with Alvaro Morata, he feels the relationship with Costa was special.

He believes Costa remains one of the best strikers in the game and the Fabregas feels he will never share such chemistry with any other number 9 in the game.

The midfielder is also fan of Morata and admits that the Spaniard has a wonderful instinct for goals inside the penalty box.

While comparing Costa and Morata, Fabregas told Spanish sports daily AS: “Diego is the striker who understood my football the best.

“And when I say striker, I do not consider [Lionel] Messi, a forward, even though I had a brilliant understanding with Leo.

“If we talking about a pure number 9, I don’t think I can have more joy with another number 9 other than Diego.

"He had his brutal understanding of space and fought for every ball until the end.

“Alvaro is more of inside the box player. He attacks the front post and has great instinct for scoring goals.

“It’s a luxury to play with him.”

Costa won two league titles and scored 52 Premier League goals in 89 appearances for Chelsea.
