Jurgen Klopp has confirmed he will continue to play Loris Karis in goal in the Champions League when Liverpool take on Spartak Moscow on Tuesday night.

Simon Mignolet has been confirmed as the club's number 1 by Klopp, but the Belgian is increasingly having to watch Liverpool play in European football's elite competition from the bench.

Klopp played Karius in Liverpool's group stage opener against Sevilla, where poor defending meant the Reds had to make do with a 2-2 draw, and the German goalkeeper will be in action again in Moscow.

The Liverpool boss has hinted he has not yet firmly decided Karius will be the club's Champions League goalkeeper, but the direction appears to be one in which the Reds are heading.

"Yes, Loris will start", Klopp told his club's official site.

"I am not sure if I have to make a decision like this [the club’s ‘Champions League goalkeeper’]. It’s all about performing.

"That shouldn’t be taken as me saying, ‘You are not performing, you’re out of the goal’.

"Everyone is allowed to make mistakes or whatever, but it’s about performing in training and the games for all of our goalkeepers.

"He will play tomorrow and we will see, but Simon is the No.1 and that’s the situation", Klopp added.

Liverpool will be desperate to take all three points from their trip to Russia as they look to record their first victory of their Champions League group stage campaign.
