Former Norwegian top flight player Jesper Mathisen has confirmed that Manchester United have scouted Sarpsborg youngster Krepin Diatta – and says the Red Devils have done so more than once.

Manchester United have scouts taking in Diatta's performance in Sarpsborg's league clash against Odd BK on Monday night, as they show interest in the 18-year-old.

Monday evening is not the first time the Red Devils have watched Diatta, Mathisen says, and the former player believes that the midfielder must be classed as the most exciting star currently plying his trade in the Norwegian top flight.

"They have seen him several times", Mathisen told TV 2.

"I know Manchester United have seen Diatta in several matches this season", he continued, before lauding the youngster's talent.

"Diatta has grown since he came to Norway and learns quickly.

"He is the most exciting player in the Eliteserien.

"He has speed, the physique and technique, and that's what the big clubs look for in their quest for new players."

Sarpsborg snapped up Diatta in February this year and locked him down on a four-year contract.

The Senegalese is capable of playing in midfield and further forward, just behind the striker.

In the current campaign Diatta has made 14 appearances in the Norwegian top flight and 18 in total, scoring seven goals and providing a single assist.
