Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha insists he has no doubts about playing defender Ross McCrorie in the absence of Bruno Alves.

McCrorie played in the Gers' Old Firm defeat against Celtic at the weekend as Alves continues to nurse a calf injury, treatment for which he is receiving in the Spanish capital, Madrid.

Alves is undergoing intensive treatment, but it remains unclear whether he will be fit in time for Rangers' trip to Hamilton on Friday evening.

However, Caixinha is not losing sleep over the situation as he believes in 19-year-old McCrorie he has someone more than capable of stepping in for Alves.

"Bruno has a Grade One on his calf, so he's doing an intensive programme with Cristiano Ronaldo's physio in Madrid", the Portuguese boss was quoted as saying by the BBC.

"He started on Friday and we hope to have him back on Monday to do tests to see if he's able to play next Friday.

"But McCrorie is a player I don't have doubts about. I like Ross a lot and he did really well.

"He didn't shake and didn't fail the test. That's his mentality. He did his job okay on Saturday."

After seeing Celtic build an eight-point lead with victory at Ibrox, Rangers know they can cut that back down to five points, at least temporarily, with victory at Hamilton on Friday.

They will start as favourites to do so with Hamilton having lost their last three consecutive Scottish Premiership games.
