Chelsea legend Pat Nevin says Diego Costa has been left "gutted" by the Blues beating Atletico Madrid this evening.

Antonio Conte's men scored a late goal through Michy Batshuayi at the Wanda Metropolitano to claim a 2-1 win in the Champions League group stage clash, a game which was also Atletico Madrid's first European clash at their new ground.

Costa, who has just completed his move from Chelsea to Atletico Madrid, was watching on.

And Nevin says the Spain international looked gutted at the result, a result which may hurt him given his fallout with Chelsea boss Conte, whose Blues side have won in Atletico Madrid's own backyard.

"We can see Diego Costa in front of us on our monitors and he's gutted", Nevin said on Chelsea TV.

"Of course, he can play in the Champions League for them from January.

"But Chelsea are the better side. Chelsea had a bunch more shots on target.

"This is a team that's been away from Europe for a season and don't look as if they've missed a minute", he added.

Chelsea top their Champions League group with six points from two games, while Roma, who won at Qarabag this evening, are second on four points.

The Blues' next group game sees Roma arrive at Stamford Bridge.
