Kolo Toure feels his role at Celtic will not change considerably from last term after he joined the club as a technical assistant.

The veteran centre-back has hung up his boots, calling time on a prestigious playing career, and has joined Brendan Rodgers' coaching staff at Celtic Park.

Toure made just 20 appearances in all competitions for Celtic last term, a record which saw him turn out for only 502 minutes in the Scottish Premiership, as he operated mainly as a backup option for the Scottish giants.

The 36-year-old spent much of his time at the club working with his younger team-mates and trying to pass on his experience, something he says will stay the same now he is part of the coaching staff.

"This is a new chapter in my career, a new beginning. The football is over now", Toure told Celtic's official site.

"I can officially say I am retired from playing and this is a new chapter which is coaching.

"I have always been in this environment and, for me, it was really important that I stay with it.

"I like to give advice, I like to help young players to improve themselves and get better. I don’t think there is a better place for me to be.

"For me there is no big change in terms of what I will be doing. I have always been the kind of player who tries to help those around me.

"Now I will try to give advice, help the young players and just guide them and pass on all the experience I have acquired during my career", Toure added.

The now former centre-back picked up a domestic treble with Celtic last season as Rodgers' men swept the board in Scottish football.
