Former Rangers striker Steven Thompson feels that Pedro Caixinha dropping Kenny Miller will raise eyebrows and says that it was clear last weekend against Celtic that the veteran striker should have started.

Miller has had a falling out with Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha and is not expected to be involved this evening at Hamilton.

The 37-year-old did not start in the Old Firm derby at the weekend, with Caixinha bringing him on off the bench to replace Carlos Pena in the 53rd minute.

Thompson thinks it was quickly apparent that Miller and not Pena should have started at Ibrox and says as a result Caixinha taking the veteran out of the squad will raise eyebrows.

"Last week Pedro Caixinha started Carlos Pena, who had a Harry Potter invisibility cloak on during the match", Thompson said on BBC Sport Scotland Facebook Live.

"When Kenny came on at around 50 minutes, he made a slight difference to the team for a small period of time.

"You could see that Kenny was a better option than Pena to start the match.

"To take Kenny from being on the bench for a big Old Firm game to taking him out of the squad is going to raise eyebrows", the ex-Rangers striker added.

Several of Caixinha's summer signings have so far failed to make their mark with big-money Mexican arrivals Pena and Eduardo Herrera notably struggling to have an impact in Scotland.

With pressure quickly mounting on the Portuguese, he will be hoping both Pena and Herrera soon prove their worth.
