Former England captain Alan Shearer feels Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has to perform for England in a major tournament to be considered world class.

Kane has been banging in the goals for Tottenham in recent seasons and has been one of the most prolific strikers in European football.

The England international also scored his first Champions League hat-trick earlier this week against APOEL Nicosia and is considered one of the best strikers in world football at the moment.

Shearer is a big fan of Kane and feels the Tottenham man has all the tools in his box that a great centre forward needs, but the former Three Lions captain believes he still needs to get his act together for England.

Kane, along with the rest of the England squad, was a disappointment last year when they crashed out of the European Championship in the group stage.

And Shearer is of the opinion that to become a truly elite level player, the striker will have to perform for his country in a major tournament.

The former England man told Coral when asked about Kane: “He is the complete centre forward.

“I don’t think there is anything that he can’t do – left foot, right foot, heading, control, passing, pace – you name it, he’s got pretty much everything.

“The only thing that is missing from his game now is that he has to do it for England in a major tournament, and then people will talk about him being in the bracket of world class.

“People talked about him not doing in the Champions League, but well he is doing it this season and he’s got to keep on doing that.

“But the big thing that will turn everyone’s head to call him world class is to do it in a major tournament [for England].”

Kane has 21 international caps to his name and has netted ten goals for England.
