Former Chelsea defender Jason Cundy thinks it would be incredibly harsh if Antonio Conte dropped Andreas Christensen for the Blues' next match.

Despite Chelsea losing 1-0 at home against Manchester City on Saturday, Christensen emerged from the game with his reputation further enhanced due to a composed display at the back.

David Luiz missed the meeting with the Citizens, but could be in line to return to the side at Christensen's expense after the international break.

But if Blues boss Conte did drop Christensen, then it would be harsh given the defender's performances, Cundy believes, dubbing the centre-back the calm head in the club's backline.

"His decision making is good. He rarely gives the ball away", Cundy said on Chelsea TV, assessing Christensen's display against the Citizens.

"He's that calm head amongst everyone and I think he's doing enough [to deserve to start].

"I think it would be very harsh if he does not find himself in the starting line-up the next time we play.

"He has been as solid and reliable as anyone in the side since he has come in", the former defender added.

Following the international break, Chelsea head to Selhurst Park to take on struggling Crystal Palace.

Then Conte's side play host to Italian giants Roma in a Champions League group stage clash.
