Manchester United legend Paddy Crerand
has revealed his surprise at Liverpool not signing a centre-back during the summer transfer window.

Liverpool have made a stuttering start to the season and have won just once in their last seven games in all competitions, which has left them in a precarious position both in the league table and the Champions League.

They will next take on Manchester United after the international break and Jose Mourinho’s men will be going into the game in imperious form, winning six of their opening seven league games.

Liverpool’s much maligned defence are expected to come under more pressure against a side who have already scored 21 league goals this term and Crerand is surprised that the Reds did not sign a centre-back.

He believes defence has been a problem for Liverpool for a while, but the Manchester United legend feels Jurgen Klopp is more interested in just attacking.

The Manchester United legend said on MUTV’s Paddy Crerand Show when asked about Liverpool’s defence: “It’s been like that for some time.

“You thought that they would strengthen at the back, but the manager looks like he just wants to charge forward.

“It will be tough as Liverpool are always like that for us.”

Liverpool have already conceded 12 goals in seven league games compared to Manchester United letting in just two and keeping six clean sheets.
