Divock Origi believes that he can take some inspiration from Kevin De Bruyne, who shone during his own spell at Wolfsburg, but insists he must go his own way.

De Bruyne is now being lauded for his performances under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, but the Belgian began to catch the eye during an 18-month spell at the Volkswagen Arena, from January 2014 until the summer of 2015.

Now Origi is following in his countryman's footsteps by heading to Germany to turn out for Wolfsburg, with the striker on a season-long loan at the Bundesliga side from Liverpool.

He admits that he spoke with De Bruyne when he had chosen Wolfsburg as his destination and feels that he can take some inspiration from the midfielder's time at the club.

But Origi is keen to plot his own career path.

"Maybe I can take some inspiration from him, but I have to go my own way", Origi told Belgian daily Het Laatste Nieuws.

"Each player has his own story.

"Currently this is the best place for me.

"I spoke with my entourage about this transfer and also with Kevin with my choice was made."

The Liverpool contracted striker also admits that De Bruyne gave Wolfsburg a glowing recommendation and as a result believes the German side are just what he needs.

"He confirmed all the good things. He said Wolfsburg is a stable and ambitous club with perfect facilities and good fans.

"He called it an ideal environment to grow – just what I need."
