Jason Holt believes that Ross McCrorie has shown this season that there are enough young talents coming through the ranks at Rangers who can step up when required.

McCrorie, 19, has earned praise from fellow Rangers team-mates and Pedro Caixinha for his performances at the heart of defence this season in a few games.

Caixinha has already termed him the future of Scottish football and the Rangers manager feels the young defender has the tools to succeed for club and country in the coming years.

Holt has stressed that some of the Rangers Under-20 players have impressed during training with the senior squad and McCrorie is a glowing example of the work being done in the club’s academy.

He believes the young defender is a great example of the talent that is coming through at Rangers and is sure the youngsters can step up to the plate when required.

The midfielder told Rangers TV: “I’ve been really impressed with all the boys in the Under-20s who have come up to train with us. They are training with us on a more regular basis, and as you saw, Ross McCrorie got his chance and did really well.

“I was delighted for him as he deserved it, and all the boys who have come up have done really well.

“Like I said earlier, there are going to be opportunities through the season where people drop out the team, and someone needs to step-up and take that opportunity.

“Ross did that, and I think it shows the rest of the younger lads and the 20s there’s an opportunity there.”

Caixinha will be hoping that the youngsters and the Rangers squad can step up this season and close the gap to Celtic, who have already beaten them this term.
