Former Juventus and Liverpool goalkeeper Alex Manninger has lavished praise on Emre Can and believes the Italian champions would not be making a mistake if they sign him.

Manninger had a short but uneventful stint at Liverpool towards the end of his career and was team-mates with the Germany midfielder for a short period of time.

But Can did enough to leave a large imprint on Manninger and the Austrian feels the 23-year-old midfielder is one of the best young players in European football at the moment.

With his contract expiring at the end of the season, Juventus are eyeing him on a free transfer next summer and the former goalkeeper feels it will be a smart piece of business if they can sign Can.

Manninger stressed that despite being only 23, the midfielder is already an experienced player and has the personality to play for Juventus.

Taking about Can, the former goalkeeper told Italian outlet Tutto Juve: “He is one of those young footballers I like.

“He’s German and we speak the same language. He played several years in Germany and despite his young age, he plays as a real veteran of the game.

“Every day he is getting better and better and he is one of the best players in Europe.

"He is good; he attacks, he defends, he knows how to score and if Juventus get him, they won’t be going wrong.

“He’s not only a great player, but a big man who doesn’t know how to lose.”

Can has given little indication that he will sign a new deal with Liverpool despite Jurgen Klopp’s willingness to hold on to the midfielder.
