Tottenham Hotspur striker Vincent Janssen, who is on loan at Fenerbahce, has not yet given up hope of the Netherlands reaching the World Cup next summer.

The Oranje need to beat Sweden by seven goals in Amsterdam on Tuesday to book a playoff spot at their opponents' expense, having kept their hopes alive by seeing off Belarus 3-1 on Saturday.

While such a big win is unlikely, Janssen has not given up hope and believes that Sweden beating Luxembourg 8-0 on the same day shows that large winning margins do happen.

The Tottenham contracted striker told Dutch broadcaster NOS: "You know that, if you win the match by a big margin, it's still possible. If Sweden can, so can we.

"Of course, the chances are very slim, but as long as that little possibility is there, you have to play the game", he continued.

"It's a very difficult task, but crazier things happen in football."

Janssen has so far scored two goals for Fenerbahce during his loan spell in Istanbul, netting against Alanyaspor and Besiktas, as he bids to forget a poor 12 months in London.

The Dutchman was shipped out by Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino after failing to make an impact following his big-money switch from AZ Alkmaar in the summer of 2016.
