Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips has revealed he did not see eye to eye with Steve Evans, during the Scot's tenure as head coach at Elland Road.

Evans was appointed Leeds boss in October 2015 following the sacking of Uwe Rosler and led the Whites to a mid-table finish before being let go in the summer of 2016.

Phillips struggled to find favour under Evans and never started a game, managing just seven appearances from the bench.

Last season, with Garry Monk in charge, Phillips made 33 appearances in the Championship, with 40 in total throughout the season, while this term under Thomas Christiansen, the 21-year-old has appeared in eleven games so far.

Phillips believes that he could and should have played more games when Evans was in charge.

But the midfielder admits the Scot had other ideas.

"It's not like I've got anything against Steve Evans, but the year Steve Evans was here I believed that I could have been playing", Phillips told LUTV.

"He obviously thought differently."

Evans has now taken over at Mansfield Town in League Two, with the Stags having launched an ambitious project to win promotion all the way up to the Championship.

Results this season have been mixed for Mansfield, who sit in ninth spot in the League Two standings after 12 games.
