Chelsea star N'Golo Kante has admitted that he is relishing his first season playing in the Champions League.

The combative midfielder, who won the Premier League with Leicester City in the 2015/16 campaign, could have played in the Champions League the following season with the Foxes, but he instead decided to sign for the Blues.

Kante played a vital role in helping Chelsea clinch the Premier League title last season; Antonio Conte’s team were not involved in Europe in the 2016/17 campaign.

The France international however has finally got to play in the Champions League this season and has featured in both of Chelsea’s matches in the tournament thus far, a 6-0 rout of Qarabag and a 2-1 win over Atletico Madrid.

And Kante, who stated that he is enjoying playing in Europe’s elite competition, explained why he was deployed further forward against the Spanish giants.

“It’s my first season in the Champions League and I enjoy to play this kind of game”, he told Chelsea’s official magazine.

“Against Atletico we had a really good game, we made a lot of chances, we deserved to score first, but they did, and we reacted very well to that to win the match.

“The manager changed my position.

“We played three midfielders and I needed to play a little bit further forward than my normal position, and I tried to traverse the attack of Atletico.

“It was a good game for the team.”

Kante, who has made 10 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea in the ongoing campaign, also has 19 caps for France to his name.
