Rangers manager Pedro Caixnha believes the Gers made last week count as they hit the ground running this week to prepare for their next match on a "totally different level".

The Gers were scheduled to visit Canada to take part in a friendly against Benfica last Friday, but saw the match cancelled at the very last moment.

Another friendly was arranged at short notice, against Morton on Saturday, giving the Portuguese manager the chance to assess his team ahead of a busy period.

Caixinha fielded three different teams in the match that ended with a 3-3 scoreline and insists that the work done from each of the three groups delighted him immensely.

Providing his assessment on the work done by his team over the course of the last week, the manager told his club's official channel: “The whole week was great.

"We took advantage and worked on a lot of aspects, and worked at a high pace.

"So it was an intense week and we knew it was the moment for us to do that.

“So overall, it was a really good week and we are starting this week on a totally different level as we prepare for the next match."

Rangers next play St Johnston on Friday and Caixinha believes that the Morton match was ideal preparation for the game because Jim Duffy's side play with the same philosophy as their next Premiership opponents.

“I think Morton play in a similar way to St Johnstone, with more-or-less the same philosophy, so it was good to put in practice some of those things.”
