Former Chelsea star Gael Kakuta has revealed why he shunned interest from Swansea City and a number of other clubs to sign for French outfit Amiens in the summer transfer window.

The 26-year-old winger left European shores in 2016 to head to China, where he linked up with Hebei China Fortune, before then completing a loan return back to Europe by penning a deal with Deportivo La Coruna.

In the summer Kakuta had a number of options on the table, including interest from the Premier League in the shape of Swansea, but surprisingly plumped for French side Amiens.

He penned a season-long loan deal with the newly promoted Ligue 1 outfit and has not looked back since.

"[There was interest] even in England [Ed. Swansea], but the most important thing was to have guarantees to play a full season and, above all, to enjoy it", Kakuta told France Football.

"I would like to find with Amiens what I experienced with Rayo Vallecano [in 2014/15].

"That spell relaunched me.

"Unfortunately, afterwards, at Sevilla, it did not happen as I had hoped.

"The profession is made of good choices and some errors.

"Sometimes from your side or because of your entourage, who do not sometimes think about you, but about their interests.

"This time, I want to show that Amiens is not a bad choice", the winger added.

Amiens have had a slow start to the new Ligue 1 campaign, picking up only six points from their seven games so far to sit in 16th spot.

This coming weekend, Amiens make the trip to Toulouse, before a home game against Bordeaux comes the following weekend.
