Rangers midfielder Josh Windass admits that when Declan John plays at left-back he often ends up having to fill in defensively.

Windass has been used to playing with Rangers skipper Lee Wallace at left-back for much of his time at Ibrox, but injury means loanee John has been thrust into the role of late.

John is a fan of bursting forward and scored twice in Rangers' 4-1 win over Hamilton before the international break.

Windass is still getting used to playing with John and admits that the full-back's willingness to burst forward often means he needs to fill in defensively.

"Waldo is a brilliant player but playing with Dec is different, he dribbles with the ball quite a lot and sometimes takes me out the game so I have to fill in which I don’t like doing too much!" Windass told Rangers TV.

"As you saw against Hamilton he can dribble past players and score so he is good to play with.

"He helps me as well, he usually just lets me go off and try and do my thing then backs me up.

"If he goes forward then I have a duty to fill in but if I can’t then luckily Graham Dorrans or Ryan Jack will help me out and always seem to cover me."

Rangers fell behind in the first minute at the SuperSeal Stadium against Hamilton, but John came to the rescue by scoring in the 21st and 25th minutes to spark an easy win for the visitors.

He will be looking to pick up where he left off before the international break when Rangers are next in action on Friday night against fourth placed St Johnstone.
