Sweden coach Janne Andersson has insisted Victor Lindelof has the mental toughness to succeed at Manchester United despite his difficult start at Old Trafford.

Manchester United signed the defender from Benfica in the summer but Jose Mourinho is keen to give him time to settle down and learn the ways of English football in his initial months.

The Manchester United manager hasn’t seen it fit to play him in the Premier League yet but has used him in the Champions League and the EFL Cup thus far.

Lindelof has attracted criticism for some of showings, especially in the European Super Cup defeat to Real Madrid, but Andersson is not paying too much attention.

The Sweden coach is certain that Lindelof is mentally tough enough to handle the situation and is convinced that he will become a success at Manchester United in the near future.

Andersson was quoted as saying by Fotbollskanalen: “I am not reading what they think about him, but someone said something that they read during breakfast.

“You need to be mentally tough to survive in this industry and Vigge is, so I think he will be fine.

“He’s both a wise and a good footballer.

"So I am completely convinced that over time he will be a great.”

Mourinho has also insisted that Lindelof will only need time and patience before he proves himself at Manchester United.
