Newcastle United have made a January transfer window swoop for Benfica centre-back Lisandro Lopez a priority.

Magpies boss Rafael Benitez is a big fan of Lisandro and tried to sign him in the 2017 January transfer window, but saw Benfica's asking price end their hopes of a deal.

The situation may be different in the new year as Lisandro is struggling for playing time at the Estadio da Luz.

According to Portuguese sports daily O Jogo, Benitez has not lost sight of Lisandro and Newcastle have made a January swoop for the Benfica man a priority.

The 28-year-old has clocked up just 146 minutes of Primeira Liga action for Benfica in the current campaign, but did feature in the Portuguese side's Champions League group stage loss against CSKA Moscow last month.
