Rangers midfielder Josh Windass has explained that manager Pedro Caixinha works with him every day to improve the defensive side of his game.

The 23-year-old, who joined the Gers from Accrington Stanley in 2016, has thus far clocked up 763 minutes over 10 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring once and setting up two goals.

Although Windass has been pleased with his performances going forward, he says that Caixinha wants him to be more defensively solid by helping out the full-backs and being closer to midfield.

And the Englishman, who has had to play with different left-backs this season, insisted that he has enjoyed the experience, despite finding it difficult at times.

“Playing every game has been good; I have played the majority of games when I have been fit”, Windass said on Rangers TV.

“I have enjoyed playing down the left; I would play anywhere if it meant I was in the side.

“It has been difficult recently because I have had Waldo [Lee Wallace] one game, Hods [Lee Hodson] the game after and then Dec [Declan John] too.

“I am getting used to different partners but I am enjoying it.

“I played up front at Accrington quite a lot and the gaffer here drills into me most days about defending and my defensive work and shouts at me quite a lot to get back defending.

“The things I have had to work on are defensively, my attacking play speaks for itself so it’s not really that I need to work on, it is more helping the full-backs and getting closer to the midfield.

“The gaffer is on me day in and day out to improve that.

“If I keep playing the way I am then the goals will come, I am creating chances and doing well going forward so hopefully I can keep that going.

“I am really enjoying playing down the left with Declan at the minute.”

Windass made 27 appearances in all competitions for Rangers last season, finding the back of the net once and providing five assists.

He scored his first Scottish Premiership goal for Rangers during their 4-1 win over Dundee in September.
