Rangers first team coach Jonatan Johansson has admitted that St. Johnstone are a tough team to play, ahead of his side’s meeting with the Saints on Friday.

St. Johnstone, who were unbeaten in their first five league games of the season, have lost two of their last three Scottish Premiership outings and presently find themselves level on points with Rangers.

Both the Gers and the Saints have 14 points from eight games, but Pedro Caixinha’s team occupy third spot in the table, owing to having a superior goal difference.

Rangers beat St. Johnstone 2-1 in the final game of the 2016/17 campaign, before playing out a goalless draw with Tommy Wright’s team in a pre-season friendly in the summer.

And Johansson, who suggested that St. Johnstone are a team Rangers know well, however is expecting a tough contest at McDiarmid Park.

“We had a good game there last season”, Johansson told Rangers’ official podcast.

“Last game of last season we played really well there with a very young side.

“And this year we’ve already played them in a pre-season friendly.

“They are a team we know really well.

“They have had a good start to the season, they are a tough team to play.

“We need to be careful and we want to make it more difficult to score against us and that’s something we have been working really hard this week.”

Rangers headed into the international break on the back of a 4-1 rout of Hamilton Academical last month.
