Reading boss Jaap Stam feels the pressure will be on Leeds United to win when the two teams clash in a Championship fixture on Saturday.

The Whites started the season strongly and won five of their opening seven league games, which saw them go atop the standings.

But Leeds presently find themselves fifth in the Championship table after losing three of their last four league outings.

Thomas Christiansen’s side headed into the international break on the back of two consecutive losses, against Cardiff City and Sheffield Wednesday respectively.

As a result, Stam is of the opinion that Leeds will be under more pressure to bag the full three points at Elland Road at the weekend.

The Dutchman, who is expecting an intense game against Leeds, thinks a win over the Yorkshire giants could kick-start his side’s campaign, with the Royals currently languishing in 20th spot in the table.

"You never know whether it's a good time to play them or not, we just need to focus on ourselves and what we can do”, Stam was quoted as saying by Get Reading.

"Games against Leeds are always intense.

“They've got a good team and it'll be a packed stadium.

"There is pressure on them to win because they've just lost two games in a row but they are doing okay so it will be an interesting afternoon.

"But for us it can give us a lift if we get a result and it can change everything if we get a win.

"This season we have been close to getting a win but haven't got it.

“It's because of small things or mistakes which we have made.

"If you're on a winning streak then things can be easier and go for you.

“If you're not winning then it's in the hands of players.

"Everybody is very confident that if we keep doing what we've been doing then the results will come."
