Former Liverpool defender Dominic Matteo believes Jurgen Klopp and the Merseyside giants are under more pressure to get a result on Saturday than Jose Mourinho and Manchester United – and says the Portuguese will tell that to his charges.

Liverpool have been on a poor run of results over the last month and have won just one of their last seven games in all competitions, which has created a heavy atmosphere around Anfield.

With Manchester United visiting Merseyside on Saturday, Liverpool have a chance to get their season back on track with a win and cut the gap at the top of the league table.

But Matteo feels Mourinho’s men could be more relaxed at Anfield as the pressure is on Liverpool to put in a performance and get a result in front of their fans.

And the former Red believes the Manchester United manager will try to instill that confidence in his players, while Klopp will search for a response from his team after a dreadful run in September.

The former defender told Betsafe: “I think because of the results recently, there is slightly more pressure on Jurgen Klopp than there is on Jose Mourinho.

“I don’t think Jose will come and park the bus this time as they have been playing with bit more fluency and he has got better players.

“The pressure is on Liverpool to go out and perform and they need to start this game well.

"I wouldn’t like to see them go behind, I think we need to get in front and stay in front.

“I just think the pressure is on Jurgen Klopp most definitely and I think Jose Mourinho will tell his players to go and relax and the pressure is on Liverpool – I think he will tell it to his players.

“Liverpool need a performance and usually when they do need one, they get one as the manager usually gets a response from his players.”

Mourinho has insisted that despite all the noise surrounding the fixture, the Liverpool game at Anfield is like any other league encounter where three points are at stake for his side, as he seeks to take pressure off his men.
