Manchester United legend Gary Pallister feels Liverpool have played better football this season than their points tally suggests.

Liverpool are going into Saturday's home game against Manchester United on the back of a dreadful run of form that has seen them win just one of their last seven games in all competitions.

Already trailing leaders Manchester City and Manchester United by seven points in the league table, the Reds are not in a position to drop more points against the Red Devils at Anfield, even at an early stage of the season.

Liverpool’s defensive frailties have time and again hurt them this term and Pallister thinks that their problems at the back should definitely remain a concern for Jurgen Klopp.

But he believes the good thing about Liverpool is as they are still creating enough chances and at some point they will start taking advantage of them because of their quality.

And the former Red Devil is also of the opinion that the points tally does not show the amount of good football Liverpool have played this season.

Pallister told Betsafe: “Liverpool have got defensive problems, I mean that’s plain for everyone to see.

“But I think some of the football has been terrific. They should have had more points than they have actually got.

“Going forward they look as they will create plenty of chances, but just haven’t managed to finish them off and that’s something you will expect to change with the amount of quality they have got in there.

“I am expecting a real test against Liverpool and as they say, it’s the first real big one for United this season.”

While none of the current top four have shipped in more than six goals thus far, Liverpool have already conceded 12 league goals this season.
