Former Liverpool defender Dominic Matteo believes Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford’s work rate makes him different to other up and coming talents in world football.

The 19-year-old forward has become a key player for Manchester United and England since making his debut for the club in January last year, which happened due to an injury crisis.

Rashford has already netted five goals in all competitions this season and is expected to start against Liverpool when Manchester United take to the pitch at Anfield on Saturday.

While he is an exciting player going forward, former Liverpool defender Matteo has been more impressed by the youngster’s willingness to work hard for the team and look to track back when required.

The former Red believes Rashford’s work rate makes him different to other young stars of his age and feels the striker will turn out to be a real asset for Manchester United in the coming years.

The ex-Liverpool defender told Betsafe: “Let’s talk about Rashford.

“When I watched him play in the Liverpool-Man United game last season, it wasn’t really an attractive game at Anfield and finished 0-0, but I watched him run back towards his own goal and tackle.

“You talk about him getting compared with Mbappes and all these players in the world, one thing he has got ahead of them lads – is his work rate.

“He wants to do the hard yards.

"If you said to Rashford that you have got to put a shift on the left hand side at Liverpool, he will be up and down and other than causing problems, he will get back and help out the defence.

“He has been a real asset to Manchester United and is one of those players who just like to play football and has been improving all the time.”

Barring any injuries, Rashford is also expected to be handed a place in England’s World Cup squad next summer.
