Pedro Caixinha says that this evening at St Johnstone was Carlos Pena's best game yet in a Rangers shirt, after the Mexico international scored twice in a 3-0 win for the Gers.

Rangers splashed the cash to sign Pena in the summer transfer window, but there have been question marks over the acquisition due to the midfielder struggling to make his mark, his fitness being especially commented on.

But Pena was in fine form at McDiarmid Park and scored in the 27th and 78th minutes to put Rangers on the way to three points, the win being capped off by a superb late Graham Dorrans strike.

Caixinha was delighted with Pena's display, which he agrees was his best yet.

"I think it was more organised. We tried to get to the basics. I am very happy about winning but also with the clean sheet", Caixinha said on BT Sport, assessing the win.

"The boys are getting along. Hard work is the process.

"Totally agree [it was Pena’s best yet]. It is not easy to come from a different country, different football.

"I saw for the first time some very good discussions on the pitch. We need to keep looking forward."

Now Caixinha revealed he plans to make the most of his time off over the weekend with a trip back to his native Portugal for some sun.

"Now we have three days off. I am going to Portugal for some vitamin D!" he added.

Rangers are now next in action next Sunday, when they take on Motherwell in the semi-final of the Scottish League Cup, as Caixinha chases his first piece of silverware as Gers boss.
