Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs feels Jose Mourinho’s team should have done better when in possession against Liverpool at Anfield.

Mourinho had set out his stall to not to lose at Anfield and after nullifying Liverpool’s attack with some stout defending, Manchester United left Merseyside with a point on the board after a 0-0 draw.

Other than a Romelu Lukaku chance in the first half, Manchester United offered little in terms of forward play and Giggs admits that they could have been much better when they had the ball.

He feels the Liverpool defence were there for the taking if Manchester United had decided to string a few passes together and had a go at their backline at Anfield.

The Manchester United legend admits that the football displayed was disappointing despite a good defensive performance.

Giggs said on Premier League TV after the game: “As a Manchester United player, the first thing you are taught really is keep possession and you need to score goals.

“It was a defensive masterclass from the United team as they got a clean sheet, but in possession you have got to be better.

“When you string a few passes together like you did with the Lukaku chance, you are going to get at that Liverpool defence.

“That was the most disappointing thing as a United fan today.”

Mourinho and his team are expected to show more attacking verve when they travel to Benfica on Wednesday for a Champions League group game.
