Eddie Gray has urged the Leeds United players to prepare for tougher physical battles in the Championship as the season enters the winter months.

Leeds have lost three of their last four league games, which has seen the Whites drop to fifth in the Championship after they led the table for a while following a good start to the season.

Thomas Christiansen’s men have struggled to cope with the physical battles they faced at Millwall and Cardiff City and many feel they are not yet ready for such tough encounters.

And Gray believes more such battles are ahead for the Leeds players as surfaces are only going to get worse as the season enters the difficult and busy winter months.

He urged the Leeds players to prepare for such physical tests and believes if they can cope with that, they have the ability to beat most teams in the Championship.

The Leeds legend told LUTV: “When you are playing games such as Millwall, Cardiff and even Sheffield Wednesday, which is a local derby, what you have got to be prepared for is a battle.

“The games that we played here and in the first couple of away games we played terrific football passing the ball around, but that’s not going to happen every week in the Championship, far from it, especially when the grounds get heavier in the winter.

“The players have got to think first of all physically we have got to match the opposition and then if you have more ability than them, then it will tell.”

Leeds will be looking to get back to winning ways when they host Reading at Elland Road today.
