Former Leeds United forward Noel Whelan does not believe Whites striker Jay-Roy Grot uses his physical presence on the pitch.

Leeds snapped Grot up from Dutch side NEC Nijmegen in the summer transfer window and he has been handed regular minutes by head coach Thomas Christiansen, regularly appearing from the bench.

Christiansen brought Grot on off the bench on Saturday against Reading, introducing the Dutchman in the 77th minute of Leeds' 1-0 league defeat.

Whelan feels he has seen enough of Grot now to assess him as a player and believes the physically imposing striker does not use his frame enough on the pitch.

He is also not sure the match at Elland Road against the Royals suited Grot.

"We know what Grot is all about. I'm not sure it was his sort of game", Whelan said on BBC Radio Leeds.

"He jumps less than his height at times.

"He doesn't use his physicality on the field."

Grot, 19, has featured for Leeds in five matches in all competitions so far this season, but is yet to hit the back of the net.
