Mohamed Salah says that Liverpool were always confident a good result was on the way after the Reds crushed Maribor 7-0 away from home in the Champions League.

It took just four minutes for Liverpool to take the lead in Slovenia after good work from Salah saw the ball end up at Roberto Firmino's feet, with the Brazilian making no mistake from close range.

It was 2-0 in the 13th minute as Philippe Coutinho struck with a half-volley, while when Salah himself got in on the scoring in the 19th minute, Maribor were reeling.

Salah scored a fourth for Liverpool in the 39th minute to make sure the Reds would go in four goals to the good at the break.

Firmino scored a fifth for Liverpool in the 54th minute, while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain then bagged his first goal for the club in the 86th minute.

And a deflected long range effort from Trent Alexander Arnold at the death made it 7-0, Liverpool's largest Champions League win in almost ten years as they went top of Group E.

For Salah, the result was always on the cards.

The winger told BT Sport: "I think it was a great game, we did good. It was an important result for us and we have to keep looking forward.

"The team did good, we had a good result and that is the most important thing.

"I'm very happy, now we have to concentrate on improving the results in the Premier League and keep on moving forward.
