Liverpool legend John Aldridge believes world-class strikers such as Sergio Aguero and Harry Kane would easily help the Reds to earn at least 12 more points every season.

The Merseyside giants, who played out a goalless draw with Manchester United at the weekend, despite being the better team at Anfield, have often struggled to put away chances in front of goal in the present campaign.

Besides their defensive woes, Liverpool’s poor finishing has cost them dearly as they have managed to win just one of their last eight games in all competitions.

On the other hand, Kane and Aguero have been in superb goalscoring form for Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City respectively, with the duo having scored six Premier League goals each.

And Aldridge thinks a striker of the stature of Kane and Aguero would have made a huge difference to the Liverpool team.

“I get the defensive concerns, and I share them, but the difference an Aguero or a Kane makes to this team is clear to me”, he wrote in his column in the Liverpool Echo.

“It’d win us 12 points or more extra a season, easy.

“Those are the games that require a real No.9, a penalty box player who can take the one chance that comes.

“We played well and worked hard for 90 minutes [in the draw against Manchester United], but our best chances fell to a defender and a midfielder.”

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has mostly preferred playing Roberto Firmino down the middle up front this season and Aldridge is of the opinion that the German tactician now needs to shake things up a bit.

“Is it time for Klopp to try something different?” he continued.

“I have said already that I would love to see Sadio Mane tried down the middle, but his injury has prevented that.

“Could Mohamed Salah be a threat there?

“He has pace and he can finish. It’s an option.

“Is Dom Solanke ready to start a game and offer that physical presence?

“He’s been a goalscorer at youth level, can he step up?

“I’d like to see it tried at some point, because I think we are lacking that at the moment.

“We certainly were against United.”
