Former Manchester United midfielder Sammy McIlroy feels Jose Mourinho will have no reason to leave Old Trafford if he continues to bring success to the club, while he also thinks fans will want to know what the Portuguese is going to do.

Mourinho has already insisted that he will not be ending his career at Manchester United and there has been talk of him leaving Old Trafford for Paris Saint-Germain.

The Portuguese has a contract until the end of next season with the club and Manchester United are expected to open talks over a new deal for him in the upcoming months.

McIlroy admits that modern club managers do not have a long shelf life, but he believes at Manchester United if Mourinho is successful there are very few clubs in world football he would want to join.

The former Manchester United midfielder feels it is important Mourinho makes up his mind about his future soon as if he delivers the big trophies at Old Trafford, there is no need for him to leave.

McIlroy said on MUTV: “There are so many managers who are getting sacked or losing their jobs for various reasons.

“But at a club like Manchester United if you are successful and you are winning trophies season after season, surely there is no other place to go and you want to stay here.

“I don’t know what Jose is thinking and this PSG thing, he batted around it but only time will tell.

“He hasn’t signed a new deal and he has 18 months left on his current contract, but surely fans want to know what he wants to do.

“He won two trophies last season and now we want to win the Premier League and the Champions League and if he is successful, surely he would want to prolong his career here.”

Manchester United are currently second in the Premier League and are well placed to progress from their Champions League group.
