Bristol City manager Lee Johnson has revealed that he becomes jealous of his charges as he can no longer play in games against the likes of Leeds United.

Johnson’s team, who are currently fourth in the Championship table with 21 points from 12 games, are next up against the Whites at Ashton Gate on Saturday.

The 36-year-old had an early end to his playing career and he has been on the managerial circuit since 2013 when Oldham Athletic appointed him as their new boss.

Johnson then took charge of Barnsley in 2015 before Bristol City roped him in February 2016.

And the former midfielder, who believes the game against Leeds will be brilliant, explained that he is envious of his players as they will be able to play in such a high-profile fixture.

“It’s just a brilliant game – when I think about it I become very envious and jealous of the players that I can no longer play in games like these”, he told bctv.

“Even though sometimes you still think you can make a comeback, but realistically you know you can’t.”

Despite starting the season brilliantly, Leeds are currently in midst of a slump, having lost their last three Championship games.

But Johnson feels the Whites’ recent loses will not give his side an edge in the contest.

“Not really”, he said, when asked if Leeds’ recent losses gives his side an edge.

“I think the past is the past and everyone can get set-up for the future.

“It’s the same with us, we move on quickly.”
