Former Celtic goalkeeper Pat Bonner has urged Brendan Rodgers to have a plan in place when Bayern Munich visit Parkhead later this month.

The Scottish champions were handed out another European thrashing on Wednesday night when Bayern Munich dominated the game at the Allianz Arena and scored three unanswered goals past Celtic.

Rodgers said after the game that there were positives to take for Celtic and Bonner admits that the few chances they created late in the game should be a source of confidence.

But the former Bhoy believes Celtic had little idea what to do when in possession against Bayern Munich and other than improving their defensive game, Rodgers’ team also need a plan on how to go about their job against Bayern Munich when they have the ball.

Bonner said after the game on BBC Sportsound: “There probably should have been more goals for Bayern Munich for the amount of possession and chances that they’ve had.

“Celtic will happy to get out of it with 3-0.

"They made a couple of chances late on in this game which will give them a little bit of confidence maybe for the return, but they’ve got to come up with some better plan than what they had tonight.

“They’ve got to defend better but they’ve also got to have some sort of plan that when they have the ball they just can’t keep giving it away when they’re under pressure.”

Bayern Munich will travel to Scotland to take on Celtic at Parkhead on 31st October.

Celtic will be looking to get something at home to keep their hopes of staying at Europe longer this season on track.
