Rangers full-back Lee Hodson feels he learnt a great deal from playing against Germany during the last international break.

The 26-year-old started for Northern Ireland in their 3-1 loss against the reigning world champions in a World Cup qualifier earlier in the month.

Goals from Sebastian Rudy and Sandro Wagner put Germany 2-0 up by the 21st minute at Windsor Park before Joshua Kimmich further extended the visitors’ advantage late in the game; Northern Ireland pulled one back through Josh Magennis in injury time.

And Hodson, who was substituted at half-time in the contest, however explained that it was a great experience to feature against the mighty Germany team.

“It’s always a learning curve when you play against the best teams in the world”, he said on Rangers’ official podcast.

“Their movement, the way they play, the presence they have about them – it’s just different class.

“It was always going to be difficult once we went 1-0 down after three minutes, but it was a great experience and the lads showed great character.

“As I said before, it was a great experience but obviously it was a disappointing result.

“But I think in a way it was a positive result for us – the character, the fight and we showed in some parts that we’re good enough to compete.”

Hodson’s current employers Rangers will next take on Motherwell in a Scottish League Cup semi-final contest on Sunday.

The defender, who has thus far managed to clock up just 328 minutes over five appearances for Rangers in the current campaign, has struck a confident note about the Gers reaching the final of the domestic cup competition.

“We’ve a very good chance of going to a final”, he continued.

“I’m very confident that we can get through to the final.

“Hopefully we can go the whole way and add a bit of silverware.”
