Dutch fitness coach Raymond Verheijen feels the ill-effects of Chelsea manager Antonio Conte’s training methods are being seen this year, with the Blues being involved in the Champions League.

Chelsea won the Premier League and were the runners-up in the FA Cup last season, but have struggled for consistency in the present campaign.

The London outfit, who are winless in their last three outings in all competitions, losing two of those, have had their fair share of injury concerns this term.

And Verheijen explained that it is not surprising to see Chelsea struggling this season as the players have had less recovery time due to their involvement in the Champions League.

The fitness coach, who has time and again blasted Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp’s training techniques, feels the German and Conte’s outdated training methods were masked last season as both clubs were not involved in Europe.

Last year, Conte got away with his training methods because Chelsea did not play in Europe so players had a week to recover between games”, he tweeted.

“Shocking to see top coaches like Conte still do not understand the effect of accumulation of fatigue in relation to performance and injuries.

“No wonder both Chelsea and Liverpool are struggling this season.

“No European football last season masked their outdated training methods.”

Verheijen has previously hit out at Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino’s training methods as well.
