Schalke coach Domenico Tedesco has not given up on in-demand Germany international Leon Goretzka signing a new contract, despite the midfielder attracting attention from heavyweights such as Arsenal, Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Liverpool.

Goretzka is now into the last year of his contract with Schalke and the club's sporting director recently struck a pessimistic note over keeping the player by admitting a pain threshold has been reached on the Ruhr side's latest renewal offer.

But coach Tedesco has a good relationship with the 22-year-old and has not given up hope of him eventually putting pen to paper on a new contract to extend his spell at Schalke beyond next summer.

Tedesco told the Westphalian Anzeiger: "We are at the moment having good talks with Leon.

"Let's see what happens", he added.
