Celtic legend Tom Boyd thinks Kieran Tierney has got everything in his locker to go further in his career.

The left-back, who was in fine form for the Hoops last season, has been ever-present in Brendan Rodgers’ team in the present campaign as well.

Besides helping out Celtic’s defence, Tierney has scored once and set up three goals in 19 appearances in all competitions for the Scottish champions this term.

Although the Scotland international is just 20 years old, he was given the captain’s armband by Bhoys boss Brendan Rodgers for a pre-season game against Sunderland in July.

Tierney then skippered Celtic in a Scottish League Cup game against Kilmarnock in the absence of Scott Brown the following month.

And Boyd, who feels being captain of Celtic at such a tender age shows how highly Tierney is rated at Parkhead, is of the opinion that the starlet possesses all the qualities to develop into a better player.

“First and foremost he’s a proper defender”, he told Celtic TV.

“He can do the odd mistake, he’s a young boy and we’ve all done that.

“To be a Celtic captain at his age shows how highly rated Kieran is at this football club.

“He has done everything he can to get to this stage.

“The qualities that he has got both defensively and attacking-wise [are great].

“He has got everything in his locker to go further.”

Tierney, who is a product of Celtic’s youth system, has seven caps for Scotland to his name.
